April 22, 2013

Instances of motorists and their passengers carting around drugs, particularly marijuana, were featured among the arrests made by Antigo police this past weekend.

Six people are now awaiting formal prosecution in connection with the offenses including three individuals facing charges following a stop late Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of Clermont Street and Fourth Avenue.

Among those arrested were a 19-year old Antigo man, a 19-year old male from Chippewa Falls and an 18-year old male from Eau Claire.

Police said their vehicle was littered with contraband with several small bags of marijuana and “pot” pipes as well as liquor and beer seized from the auto. The trio is being referred to the district attorney’s office on counts of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A different traffic stop, this one coming just after 3 a.m. Sunday near the corner of Badger Avenue and Clermont Street, resulted in a similar finding. Seized were two bags containing a small amount of marijuana and a “pot” pipe.

Authorities said the vehicle was stopped for a registration violation and an odor of marijuana could be smelled inside the auto, leading to the discovery. The listed owner, an 18-year old Antigo man, was arrested for possession of both marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He and a 17-year old male were also ticketed for underage drinking.

In yet another traffic stop, this one made Saturday at the corner of Edison Street and Smith Avenue, a 22-year old Antigo woman was cited for illegal possession of a prescription drug after medication was found in her purse.

Authorities said she was on bond for a pending drug offense which may also trigger a charge of bail jumping. She was also cited for driving with a suspended license.

Several people are facing charges for underage drinking following their attendance at a teen party discovered early Sunday in the vicinity of Highway U and Loon Lake Road. Most were from the Rhinelander area.

Officials were later informed by the property owners and that evidence of marijuana use, as well as alcohol, was discovered at the scene.
