AHS gymnasts have beam trouble, fall to tough SPASH on Thursday
space
Despite nursing some injuries and continued trouble on the tricky balance beam, the Antigo High School gymnastics team put up a tough fight Thursday against a strong Stevens Point squad. The Panthers won the dual meet 129.25 to 126.15.

The Robins went into its first meet following the holiday break without all-around gymnast Lacey Zimmerman who was injured at practice earlier this week. It was an injury which forced alternates to step up and overall, proved to be a big adjustment for the Antigo squad.

“Considering the situation, I thought we did very well,” coach Julie Langseth said. “We stayed with SPASH on everything but beam which again was our struggle. Our difficulty and event requirements are all there. We just need to overcome our confidence problem and stay on the beam.”

The Panthers’ Brooke Przekurat and Kendra Konapacki swept the top two spots in the all around with scores of 34.37 and 32.4 respectively. Antigo’s Stephanie Krause finished in a close third at 32.375 followed by Shannon Kegler in fourth at 31.72.

“Shannon again had a great presentation on the floor,” Langseth, crediting the team’s lone senior for her performance which earned her a team high 8.5—second only to Przekurat’s 9.05.

Kegler earned an 8.075 on the bars for third place, 8.45 on the vault and a 6.7 on the beam.

Krause claimed the individual vault title with an 8.5. She took third on the beam at 7.6, scored an 8.025 on the bars and an 8.25 on floor.

On the vault, Jenna Kegler tied her sister with an 8.45, Brittany Lucht had a 7.8 and Tanya McKenna scored a 7.45. On bars, McKenna scored an 8.0, J. Kegler had a 7.45 and Kristin Zalewski posted a 7.225.

On floor, Lucht placed third overall with an 8.325. McKenna had a 7.575 and J. Kegler had a 7.5. On the beam, Zalewski scored a 7.5, Lucht had a 6.95 and J. Kegler had a 4.65.
