Spirited spring elections take shape Dec. 4, 2009 Potential candidates for various school and municipal offices are mulling their options and circulating nomination papers this month.
The spring election on April 6 will feature races for all 21 seats on the Langlade County Board of Supervisors, and four positions on the Antigo Common Council.
There will also be races for seats on the Antigo, Elcho and White Lake school boards and various village positions in White Lake, Aniwa and Mattoon.
A primary, if necessary, would be held on Feb. 16.
COUNTY BOARD
Several incumbents and one former member have already taken out papers for new two-year terms on the Langlade County Board of Supervisors.
Candidates must submit nomination papers with 20 or more signatures by the close of the business day on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The board includes:
—District 1 (Antigo First Ward): Robert Benishek.
—District 2 (Antigo Second Ward): Judy Karpf, who has taken out nomination papers.
—District 3 (Antigo Third Ward): Richard Hurlbert, who has taken out nomination papers.
—District 4 (Antigo Fourth Ward): Douglas Nonnenmacher.
—District 5 (Antigo Fifth Ward): David Morse.
—District 6 (Antigo Sixth Ward): George Bornemann.
—District 7 (Antigo Seventh Ward): Vernon Cahak, who has taken out nomination papers.
—District 8 (Antigo Eighth Ward): Patricia McKinney-Rice.
—District 9 (Antigo Ninth Ward): Dale A. Dahms.
—District 10 (towns of Antigo Ward 2, Rolling Ward 1) Arlene C. Bonacci. Former supervisor John Kriha has taken out nomination papers.
—District 11 (towns of Norwood, Ward 2, and Rolling Ward 2): Ronald Nye, who has taken out papers.
—District 12 (towns of Norwood Ward 1 and Polar Ward 2): Eugene Kamps, who has taken out papers.
—District 13 (town of Antigo Ward 1): Steve Koss.
—District 14 (towns of Ackley, Parrish, Summit and Vilas): Frank Sus Jr.
—District 15 (town of Elcho Wards 1 and 2): Richard Olsen.
—District 16 (towns of Ainsworth, Elcho Ward 3 and Langlade Ward 2): Jerrold L. Burns, who has taken out papers.
—District 17 (towns of Evergreen, Langlade Ward 1 and Wolf River Ward 2): Joseph Barnett, who has taken out papers.
—District 18 (town of Wolf River Ward 1 and village of White Lake): Michael Klimoski, who has taken out papers.
—District 19 (towns of Polar Ward 1 and Price Ward 1): Thomas Schultz, who has taken out papers.
—District 20 (towns of Neva and Price Ward 2): David Solin.
—District 21 (towns of Upham and Peck): James R. Jansen, who has taken out nomination papers.
ANTIGO COMMON COUNCIL
Four of the nine seats on the Antigo Common Council are up for election to new two-year terms, and at least one new face is assured.
In the city’s Sixth Ward, Patricia Shinners has filed a declaration of non-candidacy, leaving the door open for a new member.
In District 3, incumbent Tim Kassis has taken out nomination papers.
Also up for election are seats in the Fourth Ward, now held by Robert Noskowiak; and the Eighth Ward, held by Reinhardt Balcerzak.
Between 20 and 40 signatures are needed to stand for election. The final date to file is Jan. 5.
SCHOOL BOARDS
Signatures are not needed to seek election to the Elcho, White Lake and Antigo school boards, only simple declarations of candidacy which must be filed in the various school officials by Jan. 5.
In Antigo, Sally Cahak, Roseann Hoffman and John Zupon are all up for re-election to new three year terms on the nine-member board.
At White Lake, three of seven seats are available.
Up for new three-year terms as at-large members are Sandra Gallagher and Jayne McCarthy. Lewis Bowman, appointed as town of Evergreen representative, is also up for re-election for what would be a one-year term.
In Elcho, two members will be elected for three-year at-large terms on the five-person school board. Incumbents are Heather Roff and Leonard Guth III.
VILLAGE ELECTIONS
While town races are in an off-cycle, there are contests for village trustees in the Antigo area,
In the village of White Lake, there will be elections for three trustees, with a caucus slated in January to take nominations. Incumbents are Jerry Voigt, George Campbell and Dale Brown.
Trustee Jeff Reissmann in the village of Aniwa is also up for a new term, with a January caucus slated.
In the village of Mattoon, trustees Thomas Egging, Brian Owen and Leland Parmer are also up for re-election Nomination papers must be filed by Jan. 5.
