Narcotics dogs have training day in local schools, find no contraband Dec. 3, 2009 Four dogs and their law enforcement handlers from across northeastern Wisconsin visited Antigo and Langlade County Wednesday looking for narcotics and getting an opportunity for training.
D.J. Eldridge, the Antigo Police Department’s liaison officer at the high school, explained that dogs were at schools in Elcho and White Lake and at the high school and Middle School here.
“No illegal narcotics were found” Eldridge said with satisfaction.
The dogs did sniff Sudafed in a couple of lockers because the drug is used in some illegal substances but in all of the cases, it was being used to treat student illnesses.
Among the officers joining the staff from the local police and sheriff’s departments were Brett West from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Department, Todd Skarban, Oconto County Sheriff’s Department, Craig Kasten, village of Crivitz police, Ben Hicks, Crivitz auxiliary and Mick Ashbeck, Wabeno police.
In addition to the trainers, the dogs included three German Shepherds and one Dutch Shepherd.
