Hornets look in new direction for 2009-10 season Nov. 23, 2009 Starting fresh could be the Elcho High School boys basketball theme for the 2009-10 team.
Losing six seniors through graduation, the 6-15 (6-10 overall) team are facing some fresh faces and a new coach.
At the helm of the Hornets is varsity coach Nicholas Hall. If the name sounds familiar, it should. He is a son of former Elcho boys coach Neil Hall. During his tenure with the Hornets (1986 - 1990), the elder Hall led his team to a Northern Lakes Conference championship in 1989-90, sporting winning records throughout his coaching career.
Nicholas Hall will be in his first year as a head coach after being an assistant coach with University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Saint Mary University, Minn.
Prior to coaching, Hall played college basketball at U.W-River Falls and was a member of the 2003-04 conference championship team and Glenwood City High School, having played on the 2000-01 WIAA Division 3 State championship squad.
“I am excited to be at Elcho to help build the program and give the young men consistency,” Hall said.
The Hornets are returning three players with varsity experience, senior Kyle Paulson, who averaged 10 points per game, sophomore Kyle Fischer with 11 games experience and posted 5.6 ppg, and junior Brandon Jansen.
Making up the remainder of the roster is Clayton Grose, Beau Gravitter, Kenny Seay, Jordan Clarke, Steven Parise, Brandon Donovan, Cory Ruhland, Jon Imig and West Lowe.
“The boys have been working hard and I am impressed with their work ethics so far in practice everyday,” he added.
The Hornets open up its season on the road at Tomahawk on Tuesday, game time is 7:30 p.m.
