Three people were injured in this accident in the town of Ainsworth on Saturday.

Copters move local crash victims

Nov. 16, 2009

Injuries were serious early Saturday in a town of Ainsworth crash which sent three people to area hospitals by helicopter.

The injured included Jasmine N. Hoeppner, 17, Christopher S. Drews, 20 and Curtis A. Berzinski, 23, all of Antigo.

According to the Langlade County Sheriff’s Department, the three were passengers of a vehicle driven by Joseph B. Prince, 20, of Antigo when it crashed in the vicinity of Highway 55 and Forest Road. Although initially refusing medical treatment, Prince was checked by Langlade Hospital staff.

The county’s 911 dispatch center recorded the first cry for help at 3:09 a.m. but the caller did not know the exact location of the crash and it was pinpointed by tracking the cell phone’s signal.

A DNR warden was first to the scene and within minutes, the seriousness of the accident was known.

Along with sheriff’s department personnel, emergency crews from Antigo, Pickerel and Crandon as well as flight crews from Wausau Aspirus Hospital and Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah assisted in the patients’ care.

Officials said Hoeppner was believed to be the most seriously injured and was airlifted from the scene. Berzinski and Drews were both initially taken to hospitals by ambulance before being airlifted to different locations. An update on their medical conditions was not immediately available.

According to reports, Prince told investigators that he may have been driving too fast before loosing control of the vehicle. His 2001 Pontiac left the road and rolled over multiple times.

Officials are investigating possible criminal charges.
