'Damn Yankees' back on Volm stage tonight Nov. 12, 2009 Like any Big League team, Antigo Community Theater is looking for a strong finish.
The troupe returns to the stage tonight for the final three performances of “Damn Yankees,” the tale of an aging baseball fanatic, Joe Boyd, who considers selling his soul to the devil for a chance to become a young hardball hitter and play for his beloved team.
Opening week crowds ranged from very good to fair, and Director Moira Scupien said she is anticipating a strong finish.
“We’ve had an excellent response from the audience and the troupe is really enjoying the show,” Scupien, an ACT veteran performer and director, said. “We’re really encouraging everyone to come out for these three final shows.
The show is populated by a mix of performing veterans and some new faces, including Rusty Mehlberg as young Joe Hardy and Molly Hoffman as Lola, who usually gets what she wants. And it is animated with non-stop hits, including the boisterous “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo.," the sultry “Whatever Lola Wants," and of course “You Gotta Have Heart.".
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Saturday and Sunday, all at Antigo High School’s Volm Theater.
Tickets are $7 in advance at $8 at the door. Students under 18 will be admitted for $5.
