Alleged heroin supplier in June overdoses faces local charges Nov. 3, 2009 A return court appearance has been set for next week for a man Antigo police allege provided the heroin to two individuals who nearly died after ingesting the substance at a Fifth Avenue apartment this summer.
Nueridin “Jimmy” Velioski, 25, of Waupun stands charged with two counts each of first degree reckless endangerment of safety and the manufacture or delivery of heroin. He is also charged with the manufacture or delivery of drug paraphernalia.
Velioski has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
An $8,000 cash bond was set by Langlade County Judge Fred Kawalski but on the request of defense counsel Brian Bennett, a second bond hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 9.
Velioski is charged in connection with the near deaths of Corey L. Piper, 24, of Antigo and Amanda Saldana, 19, of Cecil who were found inside a residence at 1224 Fifth Ave. during the early morning hours of June 18.
Both Piper and Saldana have also been charged in the case.
According to a criminal complaint drawn by District Attorney Ralph Uttke, the pair had been slumped over each other on a kitchen chair and neither individual had a discernible pulse.
The complaint indicated that emergency medical workers had been called to the residence to care for individuals suffering the effects of a possible alcohol overdose. Antigo police officer Jermey Wolfe, who was one of the first law enforcement officers to arrive at the scene, noted that “the subjects had actually been shooting up with heroin and were ‘dead’ until revived by EMTs.”
An occupant of the home advised police that prior to their arrival, she had heard a man, presumably Velioski, talking on the phone before dashing out the door. Police believe he is the one who called 911.
According to the complaint, a straw with white powder residue as well as two syringes, one empty and the other containing liquid, were seized from the residence. Officials said the items tested positive for the presence of heroin.
Piper and Saldana both provided statements to authorities which put Velioski at the home. Piper said that Velioski had brought the heroin and needle to the residence and cooked the drug using a spoon and a lighter.
According to the complaint, Piper told police he had injected himself with heroin. Saldana initially said that Velioski had grabbed her by the arm and forced her to do heroin while she was drunk. She later changed her story and told police that she allowed Velioski to inject her with heroin.
Piper and Saldana are both charged with possession of narcotic drugs. Both individuals have entered pleas of not guilty.
