Troubling times for a few local residents Oct. 28, 2009 It was a troubling night for a number of Langlade County residents Tuesday.
An Antigo man was sent to the hospital after suffering a puncture wound to his thigh and the suspect accused in the stabbing was arrested on counts of battery and bail jumping.
Police said the commotion erupted at a local billiards hall, evidently igniting after one of the men made rude comments about the other’s niece or girlfriend. A scuffle ensued and other people reportedly joined in the melee.
The group broke up and departed and one of the men proceeded to the Safety Building after discovering the injury to his leg. The 26-year old suspect, who lists a Bryant address, was tracked to an Antigo home and arrested.
A White Lake man was taken into custody and transported to an area mental health care facility following several tense moments in that community Tuesday night.
Problems started during a visit to an acquaintance’s Andregg Street home and continued to the point that sheriff deputies were required to step in after he reportedly held a knife to his neck after barricading himself in a vehicle.
Troutland ambulance was put on stand-by in case of injuries and the sheriff department’s negotiations team was called in but deputies on the scene were able to safely take him into custody.
An Antigo woman is also receiving mental health care as a result of her erratic actions. Police said she had been threatening to harm both herself and others.
A 29-year old Elcho man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after being found “passed out” near an Elmo Road home. Authorities said he was highly intoxicated which is a violation of a no-drink order set by the court in a pending criminal case.
As to other law enforcement cases, the sheriff’s department was advised of two thefts involving mailboxes stolen from residences on Highway AA.
Officials also checked a rollover accident on Highway A involving a motorist who had initially swerved to miss hitting a deer. A teen-age Elcho girl was taken by private vehicle to Langlade Hospital to be checked for injury.
Antigo police also cited seven Antigo teens for truancy. The students missed between 11 and 25 days, either all or part, without an excuse.
