The yearly competition brings in some of the best athletes from not only the Antigo, Elton and White Lake areas but across the U.S.
Competition begins with a three-mile whitewater paddle on section two of the river, an area noted for its pristine beauty and the quality of its class-two rapids.
The paddle is followed by a 14-mile cycle that traverses sections of the Nicolet Chequamegon National Forest which includes a river crossing.
The final leg is a 3 1/2 mile run along the river’s bank that’s noteworthy for its scenic appeal.
The event has become so popular that organizers anticipate an influx of income in excess of $80,000 into the county.
In an effort to benefit as many projects as possible, this year’s volunteers come from an assortment of non-profit organizations, numbering more than five dozen strong.
Action begins at 8:30 a.m. at the irrigation ditch near the intersection of highways 64 and 55. Banquet and awards ceremonies follow at the Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort.
