Journal's NFL prediction contest to start soon Sept. 5, 2009 Are you ready for some football?
Corresponding with the start of the 2009 NFL season, the Antigo Daily Journal will begin a new feature next week matching the wits of some of the area’s biggest sports fans.
The goal? To pick each week’s winners. The prize? A coveted ADJ mug and more importantly, a year’s worth of bragging rights.
The esteemed crew is a motley mix — Mike Pankow, athletic director and baseball coach at White Lake High School; Jim Maulthauf, owner and operator of the Elcho Club House bar and bowling; Don Guse, former Antigo High School athletic director and basketball coach; Mike Igl, a multi-sport official, teacher and former athletic director and coach at the Bowler School District; and the Journal’s own Laura Harvey, a sports reporter and photographer.
A “mystery picker,” to be revealed at the close of the season, will round out the brain trust — and there’s talk that he, or she, is a football expert. Move over Chris Berman!
The weekly picks will be printed prior to the teams hitting the field with the individual player’s win/loss recorded each week.
Check out the first edition on Tuesday and on Thursdays in coming weeks.
