Little Bohemia Lodge will offer tours tied to the 1934 Dillinger shootout. |
Little Bohemia planning resort tours July 13, 2009 Business at Little Bohemia Lodge near Manitowish Waters has jumped since “Public Enemies” filmed there last year.
And it will likely increase more when the lodge starts tours Aug. 1.
In the movie, Johnny Depp portrays Depression era bank robber John Dillinger.
He and his gang stayed at Little Bohemia in 1934 and FBI agents staged a raid, firing hundreds of bullets. Two people were killed and four others injured but none of them the gangsters.
Dillinger escaped from northern Wisconsin, apparently went to Minneapolis and was gunned down by FBI agents outside of the Biograph Theater in Chicago on Oct. 24, 1934.
The Dillinger saga is one of the great gangland stories of the Great Depression era and he has a number of ties to this area, including a girlfriend from neighboring Neopit.
Little Bohemia owner Dan Johns says the bullet holes are still there. Also on display will be the suitcases and clothes they left behind as well as the rooms Dillinger and the others stayed in.
Depp also used Dillinger’s real bed in the movie.
