Excellent race, fireworks for stock car event here Friday July 6, 2009 In the world of automobile racing, it doesn’t get much better than it was Friday, July 3 in Antigo.
A great crowd, excellent car count and a tremendous fireworks show ushered the July Fourth celebrations in Wisconsin’s northwoods.
Gordie Seegert Jr. won the sizzling late model feature race followed by Terry Anvelink and A.J. Diemel.
The crowd was large and very fast for the IMCA modified class with Julie Wedelstadt of neighboring Oconto Falls taking the feature race.
Antigo’s Charlie Wild wasn’t far behind grabbing the feature’s second spot and David Diemel capped the event with third place.
Another Antigo pilot, J.P. Remington, returned to the winning post in the truck class taking the feature but not without a challenge from Forest Crandall of Birnwmwood, who finished second and Casey Cox, Mattoon, in third.
Rod Snellenberger was first in the IMCA stocker division feature followed across the line by another popular driver on the local track, Larry Karcz Jr., both of the men coming here from Pulaski. Mark Schuenemann drove down from Boulder Junction to take the third spot in the feature.
In the popular sports modified class, Tim Jorgenson was the feature winner followed by Clintonville’s Matt Oreskovich and Jake Solin, the successful racer from White Lake.
In the Wissota stocker class two of the guys who usually are at the top of the feature list, were there again this week. Gary Kasperek was first coming north from Tigerton and Gene Shawano Jr., driving south from Argonne, was second. Chris Votis was third.
It was simply a great night for racing and the track was in speedy shape and the holiday weekend crowd was in the need for speed.
