American Legion Post No. 3 claims third at Shawano tourney June 30, 2009 Antigo’s American Legion Post No. 3 baseball team traveled to Shawano this past weekend. They finished with a 2-1 record and took third place out of eight teams.
Typhoon vs Shawano
The Typhoons took on host Shawano and came up with a 7-5 loss.
Antigo held the 4-1 advantage at the end of five complete, before Shawano would score six runs to come back for the win.
Cole Kuenzli went the distance allowing six hits, seven walks and striking out two batters. Antigo’s defense committed three errors, include one in top of the seventh.
The Typhoon was limited to only seven hits, led by Kuenzli with two singles. Justin Schroepfer, Phil Seis, Mike Wolter, Cody Schilcher and George Monk all collected hits.
Typhoon vs Pulaski
Antigo captures a close victory over Pulaski by scoring two runs in top of the fifth to win 7-6.
Down 6-5 after four complete, the Typhoon came to bat in the top of the fifth. The inning started off with Seis grounding out to the third, Josh Guenthner pounded out a home run to tie the game.
Schilcher drew a walk, Monk struck out, Chase Kuenzli followed with a single, and Kirk Welnetz the game winning RBI single, sending Schilcher home.
Antigo's hitting parade was led by Welnetz going 2-for-2, and Seis adding two singles. Others collecting singles were Wolter, Cole Kuenzli, Schilcher, and Monk.
Taking the mound for Antigo, Monk allowed four runs and was relieved by Chase Kuenzli and Cole Kuenzli. The trio allowed 10 hits, walked three and had six strike outs.
Typhoon vs Marion
Antigo's final game of the day found them down in bottom of the fourth only to score four runs and beat Marion 11-7 to capture third place.
The Typhoon collected 14 hits paced by Justin Schroepfer going 4-for-4 including a home run and two deep doubles. Schilcher collected two hits including a home run and a double, Cole Kuenzli hit a pair of singles, Seis and Monk each added two singles to the mix.
Mike Wolter toed the mound for Antigo, before being relieved by Cole Kuenzli for last four batters. They combined to allow five hits, walked five and register five strike outs.
Previous action
On Wednesday Antigo hosted Lakeland at Kretz Park and lost 6-5.
The Typhoon collected eight hits, including four extra base hits.
Jared Tomany banged out three hits including a triple, Seis had two hits (triple), Wolter and Cole Kuenzli each smacked a double.
Drew Cunningham started on the mound for Antigo and was relieved by Wolter. They combined to allow four hits, eight walks and seven strike outs.
Antigo record stands at 6-4 after the weekend games.
The Legion team and the Junior Legion team will host Shawano tonight. The Junior Legion game is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the Typhoon starting after that.
