Legion team posts success at tournament June 24, 2009 The American Legion Post No. 3 baseball team traveled to Minocqua over the weekend for a round robin tournament.
Playing games against Rothschild-Schofield-Weston, Lakeland and Ashland, the Typhoon walked away with a second place finish.
Hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning, Chase Kuenzli scored Justin Schroepfer to lift the Typhoon to a 8-7 victory over RSW.
The Typhoon pounded out 14 hits including Jared Tomany who collected two doubles in three chances.
Phil Seis and Schroepfer collected three singles in four at bats, while Cole Kuenzli had two hits including a leadoff triple in the first.
Taking the mound for Antigo was Cole Kuenzli who went the distance allowing nine hits, five walks and registered six strike outs.
Game Two featured outstanding pitching between Antigo's Jared Tomany and Lakeland's Nick Johnson, with the Typhoon losing 4-3.
Tomany went the distance by scattering seven hits, walking four and striking out seven batters.
The Typhoon's six hits came from Cole Kuenzli, who had two hits in three at bats, and singles by Tomany, Seis, Schroepfer and George Monk.
Antigo trailing 2-1 in top of the seventh, scored two runs in gaining the lead. To their demise they left the bases loaded, only to have Lakeland add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh in claiming the victory.
In game three the Typhoon recovered quickly by banging out a 19-6 victory over Ashland.
Antigo pounded 12 hits and collected 11 walks in scoring its 19 runs.
Leading the attack was Phil Seis who had four hits in five at bats, with a weekend total of 9-for-13.
Chase Kuenzli and Jared Tomany each added two hits, with Josh Guenthner banging out a home run in fifth.
Antigo played RSW on Monday night coming up short 6-2.
