Antigo High School marks festive prom April 20, 2009 The spring social scene was kicked off Saturday as over 130 couples donning a stunning array of ball gowns and tuxedos danced across the gymnasium floor during the 2009 Antigo High School junior prom.
To the cheers of friends and family who packed the Sheldon Fieldhouse seats, Kaelyn Berg fought back tears as she and Matt Rasmussen were announced as queen and king of the soiree.
Taking their place in front of a giant sequined mask, the jewel of the evening’s “Midnight Masquerade” theme, the royal couple was joined on stage by their fellow attendants, including miniature queen and king Brietta Young and Simon McPhail.
Abby Bretl and George Monk were selected as first attendants; Paige Nelson and Justin Schroepfer, second attendants; Kelsey Fittante and Peter Solin, third attendants; and Mollie Nowinsky and Kane Mach, fourth attendants.
The first in a series of area high school dances — Elcho and White Lake will both have theirs on Saturday — the event attracted more than 200 teens dressed for the occassion. Exchanging their T-shirts and jeans for more formal attire, the group’s apparrel ran the gamut from the very snazzy to the quite unique with gowns paired with tennis shoes and tuxedos sparked with flip flops and even a fuzzy pink hat.
For those in attendance, it was certainly a night to remember.
