Jordan Mach scores 25, Red Robins dismantle Medford, 65-31

Jan. 14, 2009

Any pretensions Medford had to ownership of the Great Northern Conference were exposed by the Antigo High School boys basketball team Tuesday, when the Robins buried the Raiders 65-31 at the Sheldon Fieldhouse.

The Raiders came into Antigo unbeaten, at 8-0 overall, but never showed even a glimmer of hope against a Red Robin team that looked crisp from the opening tip.

With the win, Antigo improves to 4-0 in conference play and takes over sole possession of first place.

On the way to the top, Antigo doubled up Medford in almost every statistical category.

The Robins connected on 50 percent from the field, while limiting the Raiders to half that and out-scored the visitors better than two-to one.

Antigo hauled in 35 rebounds, better than twice the Raiders’ 17. The Robins made half of their 14 three-point attempts compared to Medford’s 24 percent.

And the Raiders were liberal from beyond the arc, hoisting 29 from long-range, but with little success.

Antigo’s Jordan Mach, on the other hand, had a big night.

The junior guard buried five-of eight from downtown en route to a game-high 25 points. His first triple, just over one minute into the game, gave the Robins a 5-0 lead.

Antigo never looked back.

An 8-0 run later in the opening period put the Robins ahead by double digits, at 16-6.

In the second quarter, Antigo inflated its advantage to 25 on a Connor Lund field goal with just under two minutes left in the half.

After the first quarter, Medford struggled to solve the Robins one-three-one zone, and managed only single-digit production in each of the final three periods.

Antigo opened its largest margin—35 points—midway through the fourth quarter, when Dakota De La Pena scored to make it 59-24.

Skylar Cameron finished six-of-eight from the floor, scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and made four assists in support of the win.

Jimmy Rindt led Medford with 11 points and five rebounds.

The Robins visit Eagle River Friday to take on Northland Pines.
