Antigo All-Stars advance with win over Hodags July 13, 2010 The Antigo 12-year old Little League All-Star team stayed alive in the District 5 tournament Monday night rallying from a 6-0 deficit to claim a 12-9 victory over Rhinelander.
Antigo shut down the Hodags in order in the first inning, but struggled in the second, giving up six runs on five walks, including a double and two singles.
Antigo got back into the game in the second inning by scoring two runs on a Ben Jansen single which cut the margin to four at 6-2.
Alex Kassler held Rhinelander at six until the top of the fifth inning when they scored on a passed ball to make the score 7-2.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Max Nowinsky singled and scored on a home run by Jed Weix who blasted a two strike pitch over the center field fence to start the winning rally.
Antigo continued its scoring barrage with singles by Arin VerHagen, Alex Nagel, Kassler, Cam Noskowiak and Zach Falk coupled with a double by Weix to give a 12-7 lead heading into the sixth and final inning.
Rhinelander wouldn’t go away easy as they pushed across two runs, but would get no closer. Antigo was lead by Weix, 3-for-4 (home run, double), Falk, 2-for-3, Noskowiak, 2-for-4. Noskowiak, Weix, Kassler, Nowinsky and Nagel all took a turn on the hill.
Antigo will now face Merrill at 6 p.m. tonight at the George Street park in Schofield.
