Crowd big, races fast, exciting Friday night at the fairgrounds July 10, 2010 The race fans certainly not disappointed with the Antigo Stock Car Association’s Friday night program.
The feature event in the IMCA modified series was won by Julie Wedelstadt but it didn’t come without some dramatics.
The race was led by Mike Wedelstadt and he pulled away from the field but after debris on the track brought you the yellow flags, the racers were bunched up on the restart. Wedelstadt was in a side-by-side battle with Pat Zdroik for the lead and their speeds were tremendous. With nine laps to go, the two went into the third turn and somehow made contact. Both cars spun and then roared traveling backwards into the fence. Neither of the drivers were hurt but their cars were heavily damaged.
The track announcer suggested that tempers were flaring after the crash.
Julie Wedelstadt was followed with Jerry Muenster in second and Scott Willams in third.
The Fastrak feature was fast and exciting, too, with A.J. Diemel taking the Friday night tile followed by David Fieber in second and Troy Springborn in third.
The race was stopped by only one yellow flag.
Rod Snellenberger, who holds the points lead in the IMCA stock car class, and came up with another feature win Friday. Mitch Stankowski of Wausau was second and Gregory Gutt rounded out third place.
Sean Thayer of Birnamwood continues to post ASCI truck and street stock feature victory. Forest Cramdall was second and Robin Prockow was third.
The feature in the sports modified class was won by Tracy Wasseberg from Wausau and was followed in second by White Lake’s Jake Solin. Travis VanStraten capped the evening in third.
Racing continues on Friday at 7 p.m.
