Whiskey Jacks stay perfect with win over Loons June 23, 2010 The Mattoon Loons battled the unbeaten Elderon Whiskey Jacks, Sunday in Elderon, where the Loons suffered a 8-4 loss.
In the second inning the Loons scored the first two runs on a Chase Kuenzli single, adding two more runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
Elderon tallied four runs of its own in the fourth to overtake Mattoon 6-3.
The Loons added a run in the eighth inning, but was unable to overcome the Whiskey Jacks momentum.
Taking the mound for Elderon was Rick Boda. In going the distance, Boda recorded 17 strikeouts while allowing 10 hits.
The Loons countered with Cole Kuenzli and Jared Tomany. The pair allowed 10 hits and registered seven strikeouts.
Mattoon’s offense was led by Kuenzli, Phil Seis and Richie Resch with each collecting two hits. Zach Phyle recorded the Loon’s extra base hit with a double.
Mattoon will be off the next week before returning to action July 4 when they host Birnamwood.
